When I turned fifty I photographed a series of images of women that I juxtaposed into diptychs. My goal was to explore prepubescent girls, women of reproductive age, and postmenopausal women. I felt that even though I was older, all of the past forms of myself were present in me. I could access the feel, as a young girl, of doing cartwheels on the grass, and later, the pleasure of feeling the weight of my newborn daughter on my chest. The above image is one of the series.
Thank you Syliva. I took a moment to find out more about you as I could not find anything on Substack. If I have the correct person you are in Alabama and your images are wonderful. They have a real presence. The meticulous detail is also enticing but it feels more like a doorway into the psyche of the artist, augmenting the eye, the consciousness with which the image was formed. I hope to see more of your work. The image I think you are responding to of mine was part of a series I did when I was turning fifty, a while ago. I built diptychs out of images I shot of prepubescent girls, women of reproductive age, and women past menopause, the idea being that all the past and present are contained within what ever age we are, and when getting much older the future is also pretty clearly written as well. I will be sharing more but some can't be shared on a public platform or at least I don't think they can. At any rate, a long answer to thank you for your response and affirmation. I do appreciate it.
What a wonderful image!
